The latest major exhibition to show William Nicholson prominently is Ancient Landscape, Modern Times: Eric Ravilious and the Artists of the Chalk Downs, which runs at The Holburne Museum, Bath until 10 January 2027. It includes works by Eric Ravilious, Paul Nash, John Nash, Tirzah Garwood and Peggy Angus together with a well-chosen selection of six of William Nicholson’s best Sussex and Wiltshire landscapes. We can enjoy comparing Nicholson’s The White Horse, Westbury (1928) with Ravilious’s The Westbury Horse (1939) and discover the influence that Nicholson had on the work of the artists that followed him.
